Beautiful Branches

Beautiful
Branches

within
the storm
a gift
was born
a broken limb
a twitch
a hitch
a blessing
coming
to me,
the witch
who didn't know
she was one

growing from
fertile soil
in my front yard
a spirit tree
touched my soul
as if to be
chosen

for my protector

baptizing
its own
with embers of
smoking
dying
drying
branches
soaked in the rain
of hurricane
cracking firewood
sang out to me
to be
a majick wand

My association to Hurricane Ike and his wake is Ike Turner, Tina's wild husband & partner of What's Love Got to do With It. After Ike blew over, Tina was left with her own witchcraft. I flash on her as The Acid Queen in Ken Russel's film of Tommy by the Who. Thanks for bewitching us.

What a lovely message. Thank you Lou. I hadn't thought of that movie in a long time.

I'm afraid I had to deal with the other wild Ike, actually I’m still dealing with it. I have yet to have my washroom roof repaired.

Very perceptive of you to pick up on the protection from abuse idea. I have seen (in my mind's eye) these wands used for just that purpose... life's storms. Not to mention that some are large enough to make a good poker. That’s just a joke, but it usually takes action to make magic. Although, I do love it when synchronicity makes it seem effortless.

I was in a French-Quarter courtyard right after Katrina, when a hawk landed on the central fountain, eyed me as he circled the pool of water, jumped in and took a bath. If he can refresh amidst all the debrie and mold, why not us?

Do you live in New Orleans? or near? I find myself wondering why you were there right after Katrina. Did you jump in with the bird and invite shocked onlookers to join you with your philosophical words? I wouldn’t be too surprised if the answer is yes. If you were living there, you didn’t have many choices, if any.

My wife's family lives in NO and we visit often, staying in a French-Quarter guest house with a courtyard. Seeing the city recover after the storm has been heartening, as you must have felt after Ike.

I just recalled a line from The Acid Queen that Tina Turner sang in Tommy--"I'm the gypsy, the acid queen; pay before we start!" tying in the witchy Tina and your "A Gypsy Life" from our dreamplay on my blog.
